TEJANO ROOTS

ARTE TEJANO represents my first effort in a drawing and painting series to explore my heritage.  Through my artwork I combine spiritual, cultural and personal experiences that followed my “Arte Tejano” (art of a native Texan) exploration in connection to my Mestizo heritage.  This awareness of my Tejano heritage provided an essential resource to explore new forms and symbols with soulful meaning.  My family, along with my time as an artist-in-residence in McAllen and Mission (South Texas) during 1977, provided experiences that manifest in an animated sequence of creation.

“Arte Tejano” watercolors, drawings and paintings shown at Texas Southmost College, Brownsville, TX; Resource Center for the Arts, El Paso, TX; Galeria Chaparral, Corpus Christi, TX and other locations.
